Photosynthesis takes place in chloroplasts. Chlorophyll absorbs light energy, which plants use to turn carbon dioxide and water into glucose and oxygen.

Carbon dioxide + water → glucose + oxygen
Light energy is required.

Plants use glucose for respiration and to make cellulose for cell walls. They can also store it as starch.
