Exam mornings can feel chaotic if you wing them. A simple routine keeps your head clear and stops stupid mistakes before they happen.
The night-before setup
- Pack your bag before bed (pens, pencils, calculator, ruler, ID, water)
- Put uniform/clothes out
- Set two alarms
- Pick one light recap topic only, then stop
Do not try to cram an entire subject at midnight. Sleep helps more than panic revision.
60-90 minutes before leaving
- Eat a proper breakfast (nothing weird/new)
- Drink water
- Skim your one-page summary notes, not whole textbooks
- Do 2-3 confidence questions you can solve
The goal is confidence and calm, not learning brand-new content.
20 minutes before the exam
- Arrive early
- Stop talking to stress merchants
- Slow your breathing
- Remind yourself of your plan: read command words, manage time, bank easy marks first
Inside the exam hall
- Read instructions properly
- Check the number of questions/pages
- Start with what you can do well
- Leave space and come back to hard questions
Things to avoid on exam morning
- Last-second cramming from mates’ random notes
- Too much caffeine if you’re not used to it
- Skipping breakfast
- Doom-scrolling social media
Quick final checklist
- Equipment packed
- Water bottle
- Breakfast done
- Arrive early
- Calm first 5 minutes strategy
That’s it. Keep it boring and consistent. The students who do well on exam day are usually the ones who keep their routine simple and repeatable.
